With perfect sadness
Within the void that you once filled
The heart that no longer beats
The warmth that no longer is there
For me to hold

I turn to face being held powerless
Except by the might of will
To surrender to my humanity
To struggle to keep living
To go forward in the same faith
That carried you to your end and to your beginning.

You probably know that:
I’ll be with you long after you retire my water bowl and my fur is no longer easy to spot in the house;
That our time shared among the rocks, trees and water, and our moments of peace in those places, will always be there for you;
and you probably know that your nature and my nature suited me just fine.

You gave me everything you could and because of that, I will always be yours. Nothing changes.
We only get so much time to breathe the same air but we are bound beyond this world by the sacrifices we made for each other.
But you probably know that.

Shared fun, among the ones that yearn for the soft white and the freedom of youth under the sun, to find their limits between the summit and the base
To leave their tracks among the trees and bowls, on the steeps and places that help to describe who they are
Among those not seeking indulgence but to simply not miss the chance, the chance to be among the beauty, the wild, the life in the mountains
Stories shared in the parking lot at the foot of the massive touchstone
The afternoon air filled with the aroma of cooking food, the sounds of laughter, music, running dogs, and the voices of those who join the chorus of the ageless under the blue and white

The hour has come, from so long away
Another lifetime has passed, before judgment day
A soul released beyond body, beyond world
To the choice between self or the mercy of God’s Word
Was Faith like a rock and defended as is
Or was it like sand that was molded by will
Were we lead by our thoughts because they suited our goals
Or were we open to things greater than we could suppose
He’s calling us home by way of his Son
Our hearts should be open before the final hour comes
Us

Us
Here we are set on a spinning globe
In the vacuum of space to vast to behold
We're granted our minds and a means to express
Our thoughts on all things including our purpose
Dare we open our hearts as wide as our minds
Perhaps with the truth their focus can be aligned
Our passions though strong are many times misleading
For serving the wrong purpose than we should be achieving
There is wonder and glory that has been laid at our feet
Though we chose to look further for things more elite
We don't have much time to figure it out
That is why God jumped in to our mess, have no doubt
Our souls are the prize, not things that are lost
For they are eternal.  We must follow the cross.
