Encounter
Lena Pine Oct 2017
A strange thing happened to me
the strangest, I must tell you
I ran across a stranger one day
the one with the strangest name.
His title I don’t recall
I’m afraid
but he was a stranger
after all.

Love Story?
Lena Pine Sep 2017
We put quite a show on.
Shakespeare would be impressed.
From his Hamlet, to the Merchant
to Romeo and Juliet
who cried 'Wherefore art thou, Romeo?'
and fell face-first down, dead
there was never such a story
having such an unhappy happy end.

Listen
Lena Pine Sep 2017
So I lie awake
and listen
until the rain stops.
The pain comes from within
spreads its wings and looks for a place to land.
So I lie awake
and listen
until there's nothing to listen to.

So I listen to silence
and find it fascinating.
The nothingness of the sound
the sound of nothingness.

The moment between you and me.

Catch your breath and hold still
while the world is on the palm of your hand
the waters under your feet.

I keep looking
for what I thought was the answer
destined for me to find.
Playing hide and seek
with what does not wish to be sought.

I keep finding
loose ends
stained glass pieces tossed in the grass
haphazardly.

I wander and you wander with me
up the hills and down the valleys
without making a sound.
Among restless trees
and even more restless minds.

So let me rest now
do not dare break the silence
but break me in half.
Do as you wish and wish what you do.

Me, I wonder about the color of the moon
and the unkind ravens perched upon the invisible branches
leaning on each other
never knowing.

Me, I'm a night owl
I hoot with the twilight stealing the day
but not tonight.
Tonight I speak the language of all.
So I lie
quietly.

Out of Words
Lena Pine Oct 2017
When you pay for the last latte
desperate for a clean break
which is not the case
I'm afraid.
Both want to say the same.
Time is running out
while we are sitting
reading each other’s minds
the thing we never used to do
but we do now.
Never felt so out of words.

Memories
Lena Pine Sep 2017
They call it a rainbow
when the skies
shine with
yellow
green
red
orange
violet
and blue.
The color of your eyes.

Ballistics

Her heart
in his hands
is like a loaded gun.

Dangerous and
innocent.
Devoted and
fine.

So pull the trigger
to see what
can happen
when she surrenders
to your arms.

I had to move on
I wanted to move on so
desperately
leaving you
like a deleted scene
shot
but never put into the movie

Late Last Night
Lena Pine Oct 2017
Late last night I thought a thought.
One that is still around.
No one can avoid it.
Even you can’t, then and now.
Leave it on the ground like that?
Impossible.
Now, you say, maybe there is an
Escape to whatever the question is.
Silence
Surrounded me.

Minisaga: Accident
Lena Pine Nov 2017
He's lying in a hospital bed.
She tiptoes in.
He’s asleep
dreaming about unknown wonderlands.
The beeping equipment
is a great disappointment.
Her instructions for the man were clear
he seemed professional and capable.
Nonsense.
She comes closer.
A machine goes silent.
You have to do everything yourself these days.
