I had to move on
I wanted to move on so
desperately
leaving you
like a deleted scene
shot
but never put into the movie

He's lying in a hospital bed.
She tiptoes in.
He’s asleep
dreaming about unknown wonderlands.
The beeping equipment
is a great disappointment.
Her instructions for the man were clear
he seemed professional and capable.
Nonsense.
She comes closer.
A machine goes silent.
You have to do everything yourself these days.

When you pay for the last latte
desperate for a clean break
which is not the case
I'm afraid.
Both want to say the same.
Time is running out
while we are sitting
reading each other’s minds
the thing we never used to do
but we do now.
Never felt so out of words.

Late last night I thought a thought.
One that is still around.
No one can avoid it.
Even you can’t, then and now.
Leave it on the ground like that?
Impossible.
Now, you say, maybe there is an
Escape to whatever the question is.
Silence
Surrounded me.

A strange thing happened to me
the strangest, I must tell you
I ran across a stranger one day
the one with the strangest name.
His title I don’t recall
I’m afraid
but he was a stranger
after all.

Her heart
in his hands
is like a loaded gun.

Dangerous and
innocent.
Devoted and
fine.

So pull the trigger
to see what
can happen
when she surrenders
to your arms.

We put quite a show on.
Shakespeare would be impressed.
From his Hamlet, to the Merchant
to Romeo and Juliet
who cried 'Wherefore art thou, Romeo?'
and fell face-first down, dead
there was never such a story
having such an unhappy happy end.
