signed, sealed, buried
AR Abd-El-Barr Jun 2017
A poem to you I started to write
with a blue pen that
dried out
But I had much more to say.

With yellow sweat and tears
I kept at it
Until
I saw it was the outpouring I loved.

So with blood I continued
Drip drip
Drip
Every red ounce of me on a page.

By the time you read it
None of me
Was left
And you held a white sheet in your hands

Clay
AR Abd-El-Barr Jun 2017
There is turmoil
deep in my soul.
Water and soil
turned to sludge.
Tossing and turning
admixed the elements.
Firing then burning
turned clay to artifacts.
What was known
I know no more.
What has shown.
I didn't see before.

To break the shell of clay
I'll let the crack spread.
That's where the light ray
Enters and mends.
The sadness a sign
That the gates are open.
Drawing a straight line,
outside to the deepest core.

To primal love
perhaps, a return.
Feeling heaven above
and below, the ground.
Through future and past
Cutting across time.
To the Everlast,
returning to the First.

Pretty Dark Inside
AR Abd-El-Barr Jun 2017
I will love you with a broken heart
I will see you through broken glass
I would hold you with wounded hands
I would kiss you with burned lips.

But move with you through broken homes?
Support you despite feeling alone?
Cherish you despite feeling rejected?
Be present despite being neglected?

I asked my heart first, but found no answer
You ask much of me, but you are much better.
You tell me be patient, it will manifest
But I have no doubt that what manifests is best
How would you fix the groans of a broken record?
How would you bear the moans of a broken soul?
How do you keep telling yourself a lie?
How to keep living after your dreams die?
