Cabin in the woods
Aspire to be Apr 2017
My little cabin in the woods makes me smile
It's lofty trees with the summer breeze
My little cabin in the woods
To walk in the door is to feel restored
Its creeky floors that I adore
My little cabin in the woods
For you cannot beat my little retreat
From summer to fall we have a ball
My little cabin in the woods
Everyone who visits loves it as much as I
Yet when the cold winds come I know it's time to say goodbye
Goodbye , until next year, my little cabin is the woods
If they only knew WHY  I smile
Thinking of my little cabin in the woods

Fallen leaves
Aspire to be Apr 2017
The leaves on the trees turning from yellow to brown
With a stiff wind soon on the ground
Rustling, rustling,
A pile  of leaves so neatly collected
Beckoning me so they're not neglected
Rustling, rustling,
I jump I jump so gleefully
In a daze of joy so peacefully
To which I must admit this practice I adore
Now the leaves askew and beckoning no more
Until next year my beautiful foes
Rustling, rustling, as the wind blows

Autumn sun
Aspire to be Apr 2017
The mountain aglow with the autumn sun
Reflections of red, yellow and gold a spun
Mist on the lake like kisses goodnight
Look to the sky as geese take flight
The beauty is there for your eyes to behold
Take it all in as nature unfolds

The one that got away
Aspire to be Apr 2017
I think of you still from time to time
The moments we shared were indeed sublime
You made me laugh you made me cry
I took you for granted and said goodbye
I know you're happy now in your new life
I see you around sometimes with your new wife
I pretend that I don't care that you've moved on
I pretend I'm happy but it's all a con
Regret fills me now so much I cannot bare
For when I reach for you, every time you are not there
I deserve this misery that is now my fate
I must let go before it's too late
I'll smile again of this I'm sure
To love once more a love that's pure
So with sadness in my heart I must say
A final goodbye to the one that got away

The boat
Aspire to be May 2017
There's a boat that is all mine
That waits for me under a tall pine
Not much to look at not much to see
When it's just the two of us I feel so free
Over the water all through the waves
Ripples of peace,  for me it saves
Away I go off to ponder
The open lake is mine, alone I wander
Listen as the waves hit the bow
I seize the day here and now
Away from it all and everyone
I feel so alive , oh what fun
A storm looming time to head in
Time for my boat to wait again

The simple things
Aspire to be Jun 2017
the smell of fresh cut grass
Reflections of childhood, oh how the time does pass
It's the simple things in life that mean the most
Blue skies, corn fields, a freight train heading to the coast
A free car wash from a surprise summer storm
Watching a short story or poem take form
It's the simple things that bring us bliss
A crackling fire, lightning bugs, a salty kiss
The simple things are there right before your eyes
Just take a moment to look around and you'll realize
That it's the simple things in life that make us smile
All to remind us that the journey is worthwhile
Beauty is all around us!!

The long wait
Aspire to be Apr 2017
Boats ******* to trees with chains and rope
The lake whispers with its last summer's breath
Will the winter be kind to the lake and trail
Wait, wait, wait,
Until the warmth of another spring
Wait, wait, wait,,
For the next adventure that summer will bring

I once loved a lad of twenty

We’d climb the hills with tall blades of grass so plenty

Through wispy fields we would run so fast

The golden splendor of  our youth with no end no last

I once loved a fellow of forty five

We’d walk the shores hand in hand

Feeling content and so alive

Through sun kissed days and starry nights

So much ahead with no known sorrow in sight

I once loved a man of eighty and four

We’d sit and talk and laugh and talk some more

The twilight of life intrepid we go with no delusions

Reflection brings such peace if not only a conclusion

Alone I sit thinking of days of yore

Alas I have loved and love no more

I'm just a simple poet
Aspire to be Aug 2017
I'm just a simple poet
I don't write for fame or fortune
I don't have anything to sell
It's just that I have so many stories
So many things I'd like to tell
A Poem that makes you laugh, cry, think or remember
I search my mind, like a fires dying ember
I let my fingers do the walking on a dusty keyboard
Sometimes I pray to god, please help, oh lord
So many ideas, but the best may never come
A masterpiece to a few, perhaps junk to some
I'm just a simple poet
I hope you like what I have to say
Time for a new poem , today's a new day!

Oh hummingbird
Aspire to be Jun 2018
You hear it first
The fluttering of wings
Then you see it
Quenching it’s thirst
Oh hummingbird, oh hummingbird
Your beauty one cannot deny
I hear you , I see you
Flying on, flying on by
Like a fairy dancing on the air
You’re here then you’re gone
Away you fly without care
