Hollow Shells of People
The Void Apr 2014
Not all is as it ever was
Not all thinks as it ever does
While poems may be spoken
The words contained turn out broken
While the spirits seem to be bold
The body lies dreary and cold
As it sits, covered in frost
Its soul forever lost
Carrier vacant

Spring
The Void Apr 2014
Small, green leaf buds
Growing on the branches of trees
Violet clovers and dandelions
Unfold in the fresh grass
A clean scent fills the air
Birds start calling at last
Frogs croak in the forest
While the undergrowth becomes more dense
Grey clouds gather in the sky
A few cold drops of rain fall
To where the river lies
A rabbit streaks across the field
Taking cover from the rain
While far away a whistle can be heard
From a passing freight train
The last of the winter snow melts
While the rain quickens its pace
Finally, it's springtime
Of many, it is the best of days

Drifting
The Void Apr 2014
The sounds behind me fade away
As I slowly fall asleep
But when I open my eyes
I find myself in a dream
Here I am, in a crowded room
Full of cheering people
As I stand up in confusion
The floor tilts beneath me
I stare up at them
Finding that I'm shrinking
Or are the others getting taller,
Leaving me standing here, thinking?
Just as one steps on me,
I drift to another dream
Here I lie, in a shed
The door standing agape
The stars shine overhead
While my friend obsesses over tape
This is eerily realistic
In fact, this happened yesterday
Just as I realize this,
I drift back awake
And I stare at the window in surprise
Just outside, I see a note,
"Open your eyes."
So I do, and I find
That was only another dream

Snow
The Void Apr 2014
Whiteness blocks your vision
From the sky to the ground
Snowflakes keep on falling
You can't hear a sound
Frost settles on the glass
And when you rub it away,
It crawls right back from the edges
Icy daggers fall in place
Steam blows from your mouth
Icicles snap and crunch
From their places on the house
Far away is a grey haze
Which is really only trees
Bare branches stretching up
While the twigs snap and freeze
The peaceful calm makes you
Want to stay here all night long
But the cold tells you otherwise
And pushes you along

Further
The Void Apr 2014
Long ago,
Back in time,
Before today
Too far away
It is unreachable

Yet still we have our stories
Yet still we have our songs
To tell the tales of long ago
Far along and far along

Later, later, we will see
What it's like to be
Left behind, forgotten
Never known anymore
Chipped and weathered
Like a great stone

Those last words, we may see
At the stance of the grave
But yet forgotten, they may be
Remembrance of the brave
Maybe if we leave behind
Our importance of long ago
Perhaps these shadows of the past
Won't seem like shadows anymore

Fault
The Void Apr 2014
Velvet curtains over a sunlit window
Casting their shadows over the floor
Shattered peace standing over the scene
Blood stains the grass and vultures fly low
Sirens blare and there are coming more
The falling rain no longer clean
Shouts of sorrow cease to cease
Something is put into the back of a van
Screeching tires come again
This time they aren't coming, but leaving
All is lost, stand to speak
Funeral gone, it's been a week
Not forgotten, but never known
By those to come who would love her most

In the Void
The Void Apr 2014
In the Void,
Time writhes beneath the shadows,
The twisting shadows
Time bends against the breeze,
But there is no breeze
Time slows against pain
Time is slow
Bending low
Breaking in
Through the wind
Time goes on
Time goes long
On and off
Not to stop
End is near
Live in fear
Time is slow.
Time is slow.

In the Void,
Cold shivers in the blackness
The impossible blackness
This is the void
But not the void
For in it lies
Twinkling eyes
Nightmares lurk
In thick shadows
Hiding view,
To not look through
Something glows
And it goes
In no light
Put up no fight
Give it in
Air is thin
Breathe in slow
Let it go
Give it in.
Give it in.

Every Night
The Void Apr 2014
Flame erupts from emptiness
Red, glowing embers spouting out
Crackle, sounds the fire
Emitting ghostly black smoke
Blotting out the stars, heading higher
Orange licks of flaring flame
All wild, not tame
Forest fire all the same
Heavy trunk towers
Not much longer anymore
Soon it falls, seeming slow
Brittle branches breaking,
The sizzle of sap
The wood turning white
From the depths grow specks of light
And from this grows new fire
And from this grows new flame
More trees topple,
Sending up their roots
Now the sky starts turning silver
While the sun burns fiery gold
The flames start to dwindle
The air is growing cold
Clouds form on the horizon
Fat rain falls on the glowing remains
Putting out the embers
Now the flame no longer stays
With every night comes a new day, until there comes no more.
