Happy birthday mom
Jimmy Jan 2022
For those of you that don't know me
I put my emotions into poetry
Bare with me, we taking a trip to uncharted territory
Prepare to see what my mother means to me

Born on a farm, it's much better than the city
She literally lost her arm, doesn't mean she wasn't pretty
Learn to bounce back, especially when you lack, you have to be gritty
You have to fight for what you want, don't depend on pity
This is what she taught me, it's much more valuable than anything she could've bought me

As the fourth of five I only got her attention for a fraction of the time
Ain't on point in being bitter, even when you're the pick of the litter, I had to learn to share what's mine
Build a spiritual backbone, you can't do it alone, you need Him in this life
Because like a spine it isn't a straight line

60 years is a lot to summarise in the space of 60 lines
I did it in less, I don't need a lot to know I'm blessed
These are the things she taught me, it's worth much more than anything she could've bought me
Come what may I will pass this test

If you're here today, you made my mother smile, that's something for which I'll pay
M-O-M, man of the match but you've been going longer than 90 mins
What more can I say??
I love you mom, from the day of my birth till I reach my grave

Life's a test, pretty sure I'm not getting an A+
Would you be real wimme if it were just us??
Think about it forra sec, do I got your trust??
This ain no sprint so why we in a rush
Painting a portrait, use these words as my brush
We all got poor traits, nothing wrong with a little rust
Just gotta polish it up,

The pattern
Jimmy Nov 2020
When I was young I saw the pattern perfectly clear
They don't want you anywhere near the top cause they fear the power we got
They want us to rot, in debt, our accounts in arrears
Can't wait till the end of the month is here
****
Wish the boy had a plan to go places with or without laces and not end up in the can
That ain for me
That's something I could clearly see
The pattern was set out so we couldn't be free
Free from the bonds, not talking James
It's odd, it's strange that we can't live in peace
Always fighting with someone for something that got me pondering what it is that delays us so
If you really look back at how it was before this land was mine and yours
Not those from the north that migrated south or those who wanted to stuff their mouths, looking for anything but a spouse
They took without asking
Now all their crimes they masking
We'll see how long this country lasting in the hands of those who not belonging
I can see the pattern perfectly clear
They don't want us here

Eyes burning, the clock turning, time passing so why we wasting our lives in front of screens
I don't like that scene, everyone in a room, head leaning forward pointed towards a screen, it's obscene
How did we get to this?? What did I miss?? It was so discreet, it all seemed so bliss
Now it's all clockwork, tick tock, the gears turning we working like machines
Get up, go to work, get home off with the shoes and shirt, then off to bed, are we not human beings??
Are we not to enjoy the finer things??
Aren't we supposed to enjoy the moments spent with those who care, it ain fair
But there ain enough time, things moving too fast, slow down before you crash
Yes ima human being but what does that mean??

Ion think so
You know ion drink so how could I be drunk in love??
I thought issa drug cause it messes you up, like taking a sniff of the strongest stuff
Like living dangerously?? I'm on the brink so
That's the edge of the ledge and I'm thinking of jumping but ion think so

Mom
Lemme tell you a bit about my mom
She's stronger than a bomb
Sometimes I wonder where she's from, cause it's not here
It's clear she's more than human
She's everything except stupid
When she says that it breaks me because what would that make me?
Lately we've been together, you know strengthening that tether
So nothing can sever it
She's my mom we had that bond since my birth
Nothing can replace her even when she leaves this earth
I say that with more than a smirk
It's a full smile, cause I'm proud to say out loud that I'm her child
Like a clock she's working nonstop
Whether it's with a mop or something at the shop she really does a lot
I'm tryna figure out what makes her tick
So many gears she's intricate
If something needs to be done she'll finish it
She isn't just part of a chain, she's the one linking it
She holds it down, holds my family together
I don't know anyone who can do much better
This isn't a love letter, just something to let her find motivation to keep going
Don't give up, keep going
Keep showing your worth
Not afraid to get dirt on your shirt
Also looks good in a skirt
On the inside she'll hurt but will never show it
Evergreen she'll never spoil
Evergreen she don't need oil
She can make my blood boil and I do the same
But who can you blame
It's just who we are
My mom issa star
She made me who I am, you just won't understand the lengths she'll go to, it's very far
Talk about the extra mile she'll do one hundred
She'll even swim against the current
Just one to go with the flow? No she won't follow it
She's sweeter than chocolate
Like a defender, anything coming my way she'll block it
Yeah that's right she'll do anything to stop it
She's what drives me but doesn't sit in a cockpit
She'll set me off like a rocket
So it's time for me to take my hands out of my pocket and hold her, hug her
In a nutshell that's my mother
And I love her
