not quite day and night
Tashia Ovais May 2013
I looked up at the sky
And felt so insignificant under its soft blue scenery
The moon had come out of its shadows
To say hello to the sun
The sun replied with warm kisses of love
As if they could not bear the time apart
Cherishing the few moments
Before the sunset
The moon pulled on gravity
And brought the ocean closer to the shore
How beautifully they greeted each other
After missing the short distance of being
Able to touch with open arms
And I felt so insignificant
When I saw you in the hallways
I was not day and you were not night
I was not sand and you were not sea
There was no sunset no in between
I was black and you were white
Oh how I miss you so
But you do not quite

smoke
Tashia Ovais May 2013
hot coffee on a cold, gloomy sunday morning
lit cigarettes emitting dusty clouds onto the front porch
smoke rising from a chimney
twisting and twirling
fading away
disappearing so graciously
i wish i could burn away my feelings
and the thoughts swirling in my head
let the powdery residue of ash slip through my fingers
and dance in the grey fog
a beautiful disaster
ending in turmoil
i am not afraid of fire
i am afraid of the destruction it makes
