#faltering
Alright, left, up, down. The weather is wonderful today. The trees leave gaps for the sun to shine through. Right foot, up, forward, down. Repeat with the left. There’s an old couple at a bench. They seem happy. I’m happy for them, I swear. Forward and forward and forward, don’t miss a step. Some kids are laughing somewhere close. A ball bounces by. Why is this so hard? The grass is recently cut, I think. There used to be flowers. Don’t falter, don’t trip, don’t slip. A bird flies by. It seems familiar. It seems free. A dog chases a butterfly somewhere ahead. That’s cool, I guess. I miss you. I give up.

Footsteps to uncertainty
To go so far And turn around To take a step forward And take two steps back Ambition lost Courage faltering And you... You just keep going Leaving me reaching and falling short

Faltering Whispers fill ears Like the wind blowing crisp leaves Glares passed like greetings Stabbed into backs Slipped between ribs Pull up shields Wear them like cloaks Walk tall Hide the stumbling Rise to greet the day But before night and day intermingle You're cut down again Sew on smiles To match button eyes This routine A dance that never ends
