The Great Migration
T Andre Bostwick Apr 2012
Every winter
our fish would migrate south.

Probably to Florida or Cancun
or any of those places where
grandparents live
and it's always warm.
Fish like it in warm places.

They would tap
the side of their fish bowl and mom
would grab a glass of water,

In they would jump.
Then, Mom would pour the fish
into a container,
put it in the mailbox,
and send it south.

House fish need this,
because they can't get out of their bowls.
It's like taking a dog for a walk.
River and lake and ocean fish just swim there.

When all of the fish get south,
they have a fish party,
where they eat gangsters and smugglers,

I think.

Blue Sky Syndrome
T Andre Bostwick Apr 2012
Don steps outside.

The sight of the piercing blue sky stops him in his tracks.
Immediately his heartbeat doubles and he begins to sweat.

Just look at that thing;
all that nothing.

It's just too much.

Lawn and so on
T Andre Bostwick Apr 2012
He greets
the day with open eyes
Sounds of sprinklers meet him there.
He feels
the wet grass beneath his palm
and slowly raises himself off the ground
He looks
as though at any moment
he could collapse into an endless nothing
trapped between the moments between the moments

halfway down the gullet of a bear

when you fight gravity
nobody wins

In order to create
One must have an opinion!
You cannot be content with the
Overwhelming odds oddly
controlling your life
One must open his mind
and
scream
and be mad
that the world
lacks
his touch upon it
In order to be great
one must place
himself
in the world
and reach outward
until each
messianic moment
can be felt
by all
as fuel

i want for you all the good things
the things that i cannot provide
and when you notice that i'm watching
i will start to run and hide
and when your sister starts to stumble
on a pornographic page
i will kiss you in the hopes
that it will quell your seething rage
for me the meaning is uncertain
but it certainly contains
aftereffects behind the curtain
editing from our own brains

our self-restraint is so unsightly
it starts to slither through my mind
behind my eyeballs touching lightly
i'm slowly starting to go blind
and the madness is a mixture
of the melancholy glee
and then the heartfelt hatred sprouts
and grows with my philosophy
into a plant that's filled with pollen
for your allergenic eyes
one you think that you can handle
until you stop and see the size
This was written with the rhythm for Neutral Milk Hotel's "Song Against ***" in mind. I guess you don't need that, though.

have you ever been in love?
have you ever had someone
change the entire meaning
of one of your favorite songs?

have you ever been so desperate
to hear one person snore
in the middle of the humid florida night?

has the anticipation of that one voice ever
kept you awake
through the darkest hours
no matter the hour?

drive all night,
just to feel like you're ok

Let's Go away for Awhile
T Andre Bostwick Apr 2012
I didn't want
to go back
to the Earth, anyway.

I had had enough
of the mindless violence and the spread of disease.
High prices and
low expectations
were finally a thing of the past.

It was time to start over.

this is how i recover
T Andre Bostwick Apr 2012
the need to get better
the need to strive
to survive
to lift yourself above everything else you have ever done
the need to stop and say
this time i will learn
this time it will be different
trying to
take
these
times
and make these times
mine

There is a point
where it's too late to fall asleep
A point where you are better off
staying awake until
the next day
rather than sleeping

a point where
if you fall asleep, it will not end well

not tonight
T Andre Bostwick Apr 2012
i'm inclined to decline
your offer, so kind
it hurts me to do so,
i'll say

the flesh is willing
but the spirit is weak
perhaps we'll meet
some other day
