Evening meadow in November
Glowing in sun's golden ember
Wind whispers in the grasses
Kestral screeching as he passes
Giant storm clouds in the distance
But above my head the sky is clear
Birds singing in persistance
Calling for the attention of my ear

True story. I wrote this while hiking at one of my favorite spots.

Time is a thing that changes
Our scheduals vary, life rearanges
  There are times that rush
and others that hush
the racing whir called "growing up"

A life begins in a single moment
and the soul inside is who should own it
on your birthday, mom and dad rejoice
as you, precious child, first lift your voice
  and cry

One day, you take your first steps
Then eventually learn to express thoughts and concepts
you see many exciting new places
and come to love many kind faces

the school years come
mother says "Don't miss the bus or you'll be late!"
in a few more years you're on your first date
the time of decision and the path you will choose
comes all too quick and you need all the advice you can use
what kind of person will you become?

Then you make an alliance that's like no other
because this special friend is also your lover
and together you embark to conquer life
and overcome the struggles that can sting like a knife

Tears and laughter, anger and grace
each has their time and all have their place
you raise your family and teach your heart
and hope that what you've built wont fall apart

Like the autumn wind, old age comes
rattling the leaves that once were young
your children have begun the time of their own
and you have loved, taught, and shown
the story of your time is told by the lines on your face
and memories remain like delicate lace

I haven't done a lot of poetry, and I'm not sure if this one is very good, but hey! Practice makes perfect. Any critiquing is appreciated! : )

Oh butterfly how gracefully you fly through the woods

the sun glows on your beautiful wings as you fly

you come down for a landing on a rock in the gently

flowing stream to get a drink

then you take off to fly away to a daisy

I wrote this when I was seven.

One handed melody
picks out a tune
a delightful sequence of notes
improvised
mystery behind every corner
in single notes thirds, fourths and fifths
the music's adventure blooms
in this one handed melody*
as my other hand brushes my teeth

I was playing piano while brushing my teeth last night.
And this morning I was eating a bannana, so I typed this poem one handed too! Lol.
I guess I've been multi-tasking alot lately.

Walking along the path today
I spotted the humming bird

he hovered
s l o w l y   r o s e
until almost out of sight

Then in the blink of an eye
he made a terrific dive
and hovered once more
and repeated his question:

"Darling do you love me? Will you be my bride?
Will you raise your lovely children, with me by you side?
Will you marry me?"

slowly again he rose and dove
repeating
"(my) Love?!"

Today I saw a Rufous Hummingbird while on a walk.  He was making a courtship display. It was very lovely to watch, especially the sudden, tremendous dive! I imagined the lighthearted chatter to his beloved as his porposal in the poem. And the sudden sound he made at the end of his dive as "Love?!"

Too many ways to go
as many as the wind could blow
I'm left relying on your hand to show
the way which only you before hand know

This is about what path to choose for my life's work.

A silent peace...... so quiet..... so still

a winter field...... so soft and tranquil

misty frost glows on every grass blade

while creation sings " I am what God has made."

though nothing moves, and all seems dead

gentle sunlight flows promising new life instead

I wish I could post the photo that inspired this.
