Tuberose
May Santiago Feb 2021
The scent of tuberose flows from the garden
through my childhood window
and kisses my senses.
The therapy of spring planting
brings the promise of summer joy.
Strong and beautiful like my mother
who gardens daily to grow,
while she struggles to survive this life.
Tuberose and her unwavering love of family
Save her.
Save me.

Clear as a bell
May Santiago Feb 2021
It struck me
Struck my being
Paused my sitting
Imprinted its memory
Clear as a bell clear as a bell
A sudden fullness in my heart
The chanting
Lily's waving to the eucalyptus tree
Blades of grass stand together in a daily ritual
The church bells announcing
The music playing
The love emanating
In and out. In and out.

I Want To Feel You
May Santiago Feb 2021
Photographs of you bring my body to attention
start to feel within me the tension
want your body and impression
in my direction
begin my resurrection
my intention
You
for me
straight out of a dream
Perfection.

Understory
May Santiago Feb 2021
In the halls of nature the leaves rain down to meet me
Shy flowers open to bathe amongst the eager dapples of light
Earthy archetypal fragrances manifest as home

And I, moist like  the damp soil of the Understory
cater to notions of running my gnarly roots into the ground
to penetrate

I give into the lust of sticky stigma
inhaling explosions of pollen
initiating my fertilization

The magic of the forest
requires that you enter it
get lost in it

Get lost
to get found

We can take a warm shower together if things get too sticky
wash away that which does not serve us
We can borrow someones car and never bring it back
and drive away from stagnation in our lives
We can talk to ourselves in public
ignoring the rules that say we should not
We can love whoever and however we want
It's our birth right
We can hold life and observe it
to understand who we are
In its midst
We can be kind

Deep Down
May Santiago Feb 2021
I'm throwing you down a dark alley in my mind
deep down where taboos share their secrets
There is no forgetting as you slither into my ego
With each sunrise you wake my soul
on cold nights you warm my core.
The unbearable part of living this half life
acceptance of this life ******* hardship
Deep down I send you
You wonderful torture
you succubus

Bulldoze through still skies
Dreaming human
Hoping on the ground
as if they are walking
Staring you down
Pecking at houses
Digging for causes
Building Building
and darting like bullets
through the impartial skies

The ache is permeating my body
The nights dreams spill out
Bleeding thoughts of you
A glacial healing with permafrost memories
I can’t imagine being without you

MX

MX
Sunlight dances on the tile floor
The fierce Mexican wind roars
through my ancestral gift of long thick hair.
My soles touch the earth and glide me around my path
Nature gifts me with tiny leaves in my soup
A condiment for my soul
The women, the food and the love
they nourish me.
I see eyes shimmering like stars in the sky
The horns blare a victorious marching song
as the band marches down the cobbled road
Under the pines of this fine town
I feel the love, warmth, nourishment and steadfastness
of a people.

Go

Go
Let Go
Let Destiny
Do its thing
Like releasing the rope that sends the guillotine racing to its severing.
Freedom to be.

One
The tree unites us
The fireflies indulge us
Extensions of who we are
The branches reveal the intricacies and magic
Of life as it weaves and takes us down our tangled path
Weathering the storms, praising the sun
Acknowledging the bond that continues its growth
Solid and malleable as we navigate the web of leaves and sacred twiggy new growth
Connecting cosmically above,
grounded by our love of earth below.

Reverie
May Santiago Feb 2021
The reverie begins each morning
As I brush my hair I comb through
the memories of you
Every moment is a melancholy feasting
The physical hunger for your bones
Leaves me eating my heart out
Scrapes of time liter my mind
and I sweep them into cobwebs
that hold the infinite number of times
I visit our past
love.
