A Dark Future
Shravya Sep 2012
The shatter of a piercing bullet,
Somewhere, a knife slicing through,
A hand grenade, diffused and flung,
A lifeless body, lying in two

Yet another life is lost,
the soul rising above,
amidst cries of close ones,
pouring out their love

The thump of an axe against a tree,
the sight of nature, now so rare,
a satisfied hunter, his evil smile,
Mass destruction, everywhere

Lives, taken for granted,
Murders and suicides, everyday,
Why that inhuman cruelty?
We aren’t here forever anyway

The air around us, utterly depressed,
As we’re all finally down on our knees,
Yet, we’re still fighting with each other,
when we should be fighting for World Peace

A Troubled Mind
Shravya Sep 2012
A few unanswered calls, a broken pane,
The windows shuddering from the battering rain,
No encouragement from the mentally sane,
As the rest of us just wither in pain

Trees gossip, words familiar, though unclear,
Words of caution, because insanity is near,
They don't care that I can hear.
No value for my silently shed tear.

Crouched in pain, darkness above,
Heart scorched from deprivation of love,
there’s no future, only here and now,
Life hurts, it's one mighty shove.

Doctors come, and in vain, doctors go,
the doorbell is tired, but I'm sticking to no.
They don't understand, it's beginning to grow,
louder than ever, interrupting my show.

She's right here, sitting next to me,
I know, I've heard it before, you can't see,
If I hold her hand, she'll set me free,
By sending me high above, to recreate destiny

A Soundless Cry
Shravya Sep 2012
Her fingers dance on the piano
But she's looking at the door
Dreading the moment he walks in,
Forcing her to give him more

The floorboards creak eerily,
The doorknob slowly turns.
At the mere sight of him,
Her stomach painfully churns

Tears shield her emotions,
But not the disgust on her face.
She knows he can humiliate her,
In more than a hundred ways

The music stops almost instantly,
Her fingers ache; trembling, sore
Even though no one can save her,
Her hopeful eyes don't leave the door.

Crouched against the wall,
She curses the cruelty of fate,
For locking her up In this room,
Filled with terror and hate.

She trembles at his sight,
If she shouts, no one can hear
Her helplessness thrills him,
He laughs at her fear

Even his shadow makes her shudder,
So, she knows she'll never flee
But she won't stop waiting for the day,
That brings his death and sets her free.

Life Means You
Shravya Feb 2013
My Most Favourite Memory
Is That of Your Beautiful Face
But Now that Days Have Passed
My Life has Lost Its Grace

I Remember Our Shy Smiles
Our Reluctance At The Beginning
But That Was Long Ago
Now Life Has Lost Its Meaning

You Used To Tell Me That
You liked how I made you feel
But The Magic Has Now Vanished
My Life Has Lost Its Zeal

You Filled my Heart with Love
Made me Feel Safe and Warm
But Now that It's All Over
My Life Has Lost Its Charm

I Remember Your Pleasant Laughter
As We Sat Under The Trees
That Seems Like Years Ago
My Life Has Lost its Peace

Ever Since You Jumped
Ever Since That Fatal Fall
I Have Been Consumed By Guilt
My Life Has Lost It All

Forever
Shravya Sep 2012
At the melody of wedding bells,
I feel my heart beat fast
Doubts poison my mind,
No guarantee this will last

A nervous glance into the mirror,
One last check before I hurry,
A peek at the crowd below,
Does nothing to ease my worry

The bouquet doesn't help my shaky hands,
As I make my way down the aisle
I see you handsomely dressed in black,
And I can't help but smile

You pull me close and whisper,
That you can't wait for our lives to start,
Your love captures my soul,
And sets fire to my heart

In the future, when we're too old to walk,
And our grandson is beginning to crawl,
I shall turn to you, smile and say,
We proved true love exists, after all

A Woman's World
Shravya Sep 2012
She clutches her bag tightly,
her eyes never leaving the floor;
a tired sigh as the leaves crackle,
under feet, achingly sore

Returning from a stressful job,
she realizes she’s in no hurry,
After all, what she does at home,
is feed her constant worry

A devoted wife to a drunkard,
His abuses, she must bear,
For the sake of her little ones,
to leave him, she doesn’t dare

Her fingers on the doorbell,
she braces herself for what’s in store,
***** dishes in the sink,
and clothes scattered on the floor

Sighing, she picks up her wailing son,
and kisses her daughter’s bandaged knee,
she knows as long as she is a woman,
she’ll never be completely free.
