I stopped to watch her
On the road I walk to mass
The one I prefer

Awaiting the summoning bell
Her beauty blossomed and called
Her golden hair tumbled and fell

Framing the so radiant face
Fair as a late summer rose
The courtesan of Dunvalace

Her slender hand settled in mine
And I heard the church bells ring
And I turned from the holy shrine

She led me to a small dark room
And I fought long for control
As I surrendered to my doom
She said “Penny for your Soul.”

The telephone poles
Stand wistfully
Over the decimated plain
They remember the time
When they lived as trees
They remember the time
Rivers ran clear and free
They remember the men
That cut them down
The men that turned
All rivers brown
They remember the wars
That took the men away
They remember the blood
And the chaos in the fray
They remember the riot
Of bomb and gun
They remember the quiet
When all was done
And so they stand
The future forests
A testament
To what once was
And what could have been

The winds whisper tales of far away lands
Of palaces, seas and beaches with sands
Of kings, of queens and brass marching bands
The eagles sing about the heavens above
But my favorite tale is the one from the dove
She tells me of a land far far away
And what a little girl saw one morning in May
Sally wandered through the park
Though it was getting dark
And she saw over there
A lady with feathers in her hair
She thought it odd that
There were feathers but no hat
So sally asked why
And was answered with a sigh
The hat is still there
It is you who cannot see
Or perhaps you simply
Cannot believe
It’s alright child
You’ll grow up soon
Sally was puzzled
And very confused
She glanced away
While she mused
When she turned back her gaze
Sally was quite amazed
The woman with feathers
In her hair
Was no longer there

I had forgotten how the wind can shake a tree
And how water flowing sets you free

I had forgotten how tides ebb and flow
And how quickly the sun melts snow

I had forgotten the feel of sand on bare feet
And how to make snowmen from sleet

I had forgotten the earthy smell of spring
And how the wind whistles and sings

I had forgotten you know
That you love me so

Silently
She dances
To the
Music
No other
Can hear

Unseen
She moves
Through her
Carefully
Painstakingly
Choreographed
Pattern

Lustfully
She gazes
Into
The world
Full
Of people
Of sounds
Of sights
That ignore
Her

Desperately
She wishes
Longs
To be
One
Of them
Seen
Heard
Understood

Eternally
She dances
Hoping
Dreaming
To be
More than
The shadow
That she is

Left abandoned
A piano sits
In the forest
A civilized memory
Lost in the war
Stirs in the mind
Of a wandering soldier
With hesitant steps
He approaches
The beaten old piano
Strikes a key
Tries to play
But somewhere
Along the way
The song was lost
And the notes soured
The music has gone
And the soldier
Marches on

Back away from the keyboard
Release your grasp in the mouse
Put your hands behind your head
Now slowly put down the cellphone
I said,
put down
the cellphone
Close facebook

Shut it down
Back away
from the
Addicting
Consuming
Obsessive need
To be connected
To people
A thousand miles away
To know the details
Of a person’s life
When they don’t even
Know your name,
Unplug,
your mind
From the cyber world
Save your words
From A slow death
