Flying again
Sean OConnell Nov 2013
I look to the sky
And see the bird of creativity
Soar, swoop and glide
Through ethereal clouds
Of wispy originality

I look to the horizon
And see the bird of sensitivity
Sail and undulate
Over red-misted contours
Of reflected humanity

I look to the tree
And see the bird of profundity
Stand proud and watch
Over deep-rooted layers
Of bygone sagacity

I look to my heart
And see the birds of tenacity
Fly, sweep and drive
Out crushing senses
Of genuine anxiety

I look up and smile
My birds are flying again

I preen
Like a thousand eyed poser
And strut imperiously
Before my conquests
When you say you want me

I shine
Like a technicolour light show
And blaze dramatically
In my paradise
When you say you need me

I climb
Like a majestic bird king
And hover regally
Over my domain
When you say you love me

I stand
Like an ice carved emperor
And search desperately
Over my wilderness
When you say goodbye

Red
Sad poppies salute
those who lie in comrades' arms
in lost, lonely fields

Soft lips blow kisses
that ****** the fragile lust
of deluded minds

Bright light signals stop
to impatient ego trips
that know no better

Sad eyes betray grief
that obscures joy's emotions
with tragic picture

Blazed sunset beacons
a final, glowing farewell
to its daydream child

Oz shoes carry girl
safely over the rainbow
Munchkins cheer loudly

La colomba nera

Spread your wings,
break free of
the tangled torment of doubt
that drags you down
and constricts your inventive
lifeblood

Leave this nest.
float away from
the mangled misery of indecision
that buries you
and crushes your fervent
outlook

Sing your song,
send it clear of
the grinding groan of despair
that drowns you out
and numbs your impassioned
spirit

Fly with me,
float on clouds of
the sublime sanctuary of understanding
that keeps you safe
and heals your disheartened
conscience

Be my sun,
gleam with streaks of
the blinding beauty of inspiration
that drives you on
and illuminates your grateful
passion

Soar up high,
I will not let you fall

Haiku Night

Stars drift lazily
over the peaceful dark pond
and shine watchfully

Gentle moon whispers
hazy lullabies of calm
that will tranquilize

Owls hoot their wisdom
so worlds will rest untroubled
cocooned in shadows
