A Cruel Judgment
Sarah Konopka Aug 2011
I’d like you believe you love me,
Trust me, it’s something I’d love to do,
But when we talk, even if just once in a while,
I’m reminded why I still have no faith in you.

Abandonment is such a harsh word to use, I suppose
But how else can I describe it, you think?
I muster my hope, gather my smiles, for you,
You never follow through; my heart always sinks.

I’ve become consumed by why I’m not worth your time,
Why you look at me as if I’m nothing, worthless, even
I’m your daughter, you know, whether you like it or not
You make me feel like dirt.

Dad,
I love you.
Believe me so.
Hug me, save me,
Help me grow.

Show me that you love me.
Show me that you care.
Give me some reason,
To know you’ll always be there.
Love, Sarah.

I guess I can’t expect much from you,
You’re the same as you’re always going to be,
But just once, if only once, in your lifetime,
I wish you could see how your abandonment is leaving me.

Young Love
Sarah Konopka Aug 2011
As she sat in the corner and cried,
Tears rolling down, down so swiftly,
She lifted her head ever so slightly,
And asked him,
“Why is it that you’re still with me?”

No hesitance in his voice,
No anger in his face or hands,
He walked over to her so slowly,
And brought her up for a dance.

“Oh, Sarah. My dear, I thought I told you so,
I love everything about you,
Good or bad, right or wrong,
Whether you feel high or low.
To me, you are perfect,
Even if you hurt me once in a while,
But trust me, babe, we’ll get through it.”

He said, as she began to smile.
He held her close, then, as they rocked back and forth
To their own tune,
“I promise you, we’ll be together, oh so very soon.”

Right then he stopped,
Suddenly,
And looked down at her raw face,
He got down on one knee,
And she gasped as he pulled a box.

“You are the one for me, you see,
Just your smile makes me melt,
I know it would be no mistake spending my life with you,
Sarah, will you marry me?”

She was shocked, all flustered, confused,
Sad, happy, giddy,
Her tears had stopped, her heart began to flutter,
And she felt oh so smitten.

“Harold, I don’t know how you do it,
I don’t know how you make me laugh, sometimes,
I don’t know why you love me so,
I just don’t know why.
But I love you more than anything,
You’re the sunshine to my life,
You make me happier than anybody,
So yes,
Yes, I will!”

There they will be, ten years later,
Happy together, still.
