I dreamt there were millions of
Bright little frogs
With jeweled-dew eyes
And glimmering legs that
Flashed and leapt about in your sea-kelp hair

And your skin was the brown of river-beds,
Warmed by midday winter-sun
And dappled like eels swimming

And your eyes held the liquor of pearls and amber
And the sting of scorpions
And the songs of river-stones

And in my dream,
There were *****
Like tiny polished pomegranates
Clasped in a long chain about your neck;
They skittered uneasily, whispering to one another
Of faith and betrayal

And your words, they were few,
Falling in indigo droplets-
Cool, distant
Murmuring
That held the secrets of the clouds

And you wanted me to understand
Something…
So urgently- something about death and what came after-
Beaches and endless sky, or purple meadows and pale stars,
Or just words perhaps…
I don’t remember
Except that it was sad.

And then I woke up-
Tears warm against my cheek,
Heart baffled by water-love and secrets,
And memory of a million bright little frogs
Glittering in your sea-kelp hair
Tap
    the thesaurus
lightly
    so the poem
ripples
    into place
Neptune
Eyed baby
I'll admit I'm
Light-years past crazy

I'd give
The Galaxy
For you

Juniper
Burned Haley's
Comet as it
Lit up our daily

Blues
Set in our awkward shoes

Mind-tight dreaming
Garnished with gleaming
Silence kept screaming
In hope for the breaking word

Spark-wet
Drenched breaths
Under the tree
That murdered death

I'd make
The sun burn
For you

Grass-stained
Sky-dressed
You leave me to
My obsession's mess-y

Blues
Set in our awkward shoes

Mind tight dreaming
Garnished with gleaming
Silence kept screaming
In hope for the breaking word

Violent heart rate
In nerve-wrecked state
Tempting all fates
To go back on their word

And I say
Goodbye, Cornea,
Goodbye
And I say
I love you, Cornea
Goodnight

And I say
Goodbye, Alice,
Goodbye
And I say
I love you, Alice
Goodnight

Mind-tight dreaming
Garnished with gleaming
Silence kept screaming
In hope for the breaking word

Violent heart rate
In nerve-wrecked state
Tempting all fates
To go back on their word

Neptune
Eyed baby
I'll admit I'm
Light-years past crazy

For you
The walls screamed poetry disease & ***
an inner whine like a mad machine -
dropped in a
cave of roaches

I am a guide to the labyrinth
Come & see me
in the green hotel
Rm. 32
I will be there after 9:30 p.m.

I will show you the girl of the ghetto
I will show you the burning well
I will show you strange people
haunted, beast-like, on the
verge of evolution

Leaving the phone-booth, I was
Struck by a whiff of
the weird.
Insane old country woman
come to nag the haunts
of town
Hairy legs w/open sores.

From what swamp or under-rock
did you crawl to remind
us what we choose
to leave
The scream that cannot be heard
The anguish untold
Flesh and blood: A humoured existence
Only the lonely
Only the abstract
Only the memories
Comfort me.
I am blinded by truth
So stark and unforgiving
I am struck down
Down in a hole
A deep pit of my making
And I cannot get out.
(take with)
falling slightly to smaller pieces when you leave
than when you're here my reach is
(both hands)
stronger and
the pieces stay in place.
not
shattered to a million pieces
(pull)
like clouds of dust in space, but
sections lumber clumsily
(over)
like stones rolled face to face.
