And Just Like the Moon...
And Just Like the Moon...

Vaguely lit
--- by the summer moon,
starlight sang her ancient song.

      Her sweet madness, well shrouded like a child's secret;
--sang to her like she were a dying friend.
Their smiles twinkled as a banana spider spun
Venus into her web.
Moon shadows planted their face
in the tall, dewy grass
as shimmering willows sent their fingers feeling.

       Memories from many centuries past
came flooding back like a retreating tsunami.
Her soft touch tingled on his skin,
something even Picasso couldn't capture on canvas.
His thoughts dove into the dark depths of her eyes,
swimming off into the dancing starlight.
She tossed stones through the moon's watery reflection
and a million more moons slow danced across the surface.
We caught shooting stars and sealed them in jars,

                                              and just like the moon...

                                                                 =========I hung there.

What He Was Dying to Say
Today I seen my shadow
in a whole new light.
It stood tall and
didn't want to fight.

I couldn't tell if it was smilng,
or if it wore a frown.
I only knew that I needed to know
before this rising sun went down.

Who was this man cast before me?
I felt he needed to belong.
He couldn't talk with his eyes,
or sing it to me in song.

I never did hear
what he was dying to say.
I just shook his hand and
he walked away.

Chained Whispers
Twilight moon--
drifting unaware.

A sudden flood of color
shimmered on a sea of glass.

One million angels were trembling,
holding back their song.

A world sleeping blind--

dreaming downward
awoke...
to a clear reflection
of reality.

Fleeting shades of shuffling sound
glowed white...

like flames of a deep love.

Suddenly--

Chained whispers
exploded into God's song.
.

The corners of my life are worn with cracks,
my spine is older and bowing.
My dust jacket has been consumed by moth,
yet the words within are still glowing.

Thunderheads are dancing in my backyard,
big bands swing in the childrens eyes.
When did imagination become insanity,
death is short-lived, yet everyone tries.

Distant tides crash in a familiar pattern,
queen bees dance within their hive.
Even while tragedy is striking,
you're still glad to be alive.

A glass of red wine sits atop my piano,
and then comes the sudden strike of a key.
A synthetic chord becomes entwined together,
kind of reminds me of you and me.

Where destinies flowed from the magic wand,
then a vast array of cynics came into view.
Then rumbling forces warred with us from
doing unto others as you'd have done unto you.

Complex and complete, yes--
alt and delete never understood, “just because.”
The thunderheads roared, and yet they restored
the man I really thought that I was.

The corners of my life are worn with cracks,
my spine is older and bowing.
My dust jacket has been consumed by moth,
yet the words within are still glowing...

The words within are still *glowing!

Etching Goodbye in the Mist
Forgotten flesh behind cold walls,

pressing nose to steamed glass--

With weightless memories,
your ache hides within a dream
like whispers on a scream.

--playing moon games.

a black widow wrapping
flies is the only sound.

The silence roared like fire,
standing in the shadows of surrender...

etching goodbye in the mist.
A sudden shaking--

Gray thunder dust
chokes out sound,
cloaking the world in death...

Goodbye's ghost is a pale rider.

Another unloved winter melts
as today lies on the brink of tomorrow.

A shifting sky is saturated with screaming colors,
where secrets pretend to be untold as
another black pearl nightmare is extracted from her bleeding throat.

He'll Give You an Inch...
.

Having escaped his
dank and desolate amniotic enclosure,
the devil's milk became an ebony arterial spray
dripping like warm wax down a gold-leaf candlestick.

He'll give you an inch, and take your smile...

He's a wildflower among the thorn,
with ripe lies plump for the picking,
with a heavy and pungent ripeness;
haunting, fleshy apricots with poisonous pits.

--Coolness to a burning throat,
oozing with crisp copper mockery.

He'll give you an inch, and take your smile...

Treat or Trick?

The Heart of Every Rainbow
.

So many summers and winters...
kissed by the light of a starlit moon.

The mouth of reason turns to song
as women of darkness
start walking into the light.

When you breathe darkness--
blindness is your curse.
Light is the key to the door,
the heart of every rainbow...

The effect to every cause.

Girl's Souls
.

Snips & snails & midnight shadows unaware--

...the soft flesh of wildflowers tremble
in the blistering wind.

Slowly shifting their tattered reflection...
Twilight fire, painted angels
bleeding dreamlessly.

A perfect stranger
melts like a million echoes ground into dust.
Eternity glowed like a falling moonstone.

Girl's souls
really are sugar and spice...

.
I was not, yet there I go--

a childhood re-invented,
one rabbit's foot and skeletons
of ghosts line my pockets.

Where the carnival puppets
pressed their thorns and had torn my flesh.
Chariots always grotesquely alter at midnight.

His night drunkenness rekindled the flames
of my hell.
I could smell daddy
down the hall--

He and his tenderness disorder.

I always scream on the inside
when he walks in my room.
In a slaves frenzy, I kick!

Poisonous memories, rancid and
acidic,
that burning flow,
drips thick inside my brain.
Devouring everything I thought was
good in this world.

--Black and white, black and white.
Everything is black and white!

The impure child, once more baptizes
the devil into eternity.
Whiskey lake laps at the shore
as the gypsy angels are crying.

I was not, yet there I go...

The Ache of a Dry Summer
.

A thousand hellos
felled by the arrow of one goodbye--

Wordless bleeding...
a hollow hatred howls from
the ache of a dry summer,

withering her heart like a leaf on a limb.

.

Wordless stranger talking,
sealed doll eyes crying--

as salty moon flies smile.

Black cat's white shadow arches.

Deep sleep escape...

He mentally buries the lost picture
of angels swimming

in holy water--

beneath a thousand shades of
blind twilight.

Surrounded by Shark and Man
.

---To be content in a mad, mad world,
to be the last sane man to see
absolutely nothing in the ink blotter clouds
marching across an azure sky like pigs
to slaughter,
laughing until the final bomb blast
  vaporizes our vocal chords.

Ripe and vibrating like a
tuning fork in A.
  Where insanity falls like rain,
we're driven mad by the patter.
  Drip, drip...
Madness took over Dallas last
  Saturday morning.

---The oceans will to rise tomorrow.
Do you live on the coast? East, west?
Run to the hills like the bleating sheep.
Bleating and bleeding...
  Stampeding!

How long can a person tread
water surrounded
   by shark & man?

Not long...

Not long.

.
--In a dream I did see
lovely outstretched hands
  pierced with lily white light
between the Oleander and the mad seas.
  That by starlight--- chained
for more than twenty thousand years
captive in the vast realms of Heaven,
shot forth suddenly!

--Beneath a shivering willow
I received a flurry of quickened kisses.
The flowers that she picked
  entwined their thin arms
in each soft corner
of the violet forest to the
  cool raging streams that effervesced
into the warm azure pools--
embroidered with lime green moss that hangs
from each branch
of the willow into the eye
   of the poet.
He said it had a voice, firm, yet--

endless...

  as I floated back down--

distance knew not time.

I looked deep into the apple green eyes
of the leaping panther
  as I fell back
into an ocean of pearls.

I swam back to sleep.

His dog is in need of water--

the actor's emaciated.
You'd think he's sacrificed blood,
but the gutter is overrated.

His eyes seek out a bargain
in between the brittle brick.
Just like his toes,
they are cracked and froze...

--- this is not a trick.

Sing an ode to your pin cushion veins
and to your pastel eyes--
these wet city streets are full of broken screams
and unspoken alibis.

I've heard your simple prayers, (yes)
I've smelled the spark's sharp steel stench.
I watched the moon slide across the frost
as you slept on the park's bench.

Trade your bread for a piece of sky
with a madman's son or daughter.
(Yes!) This actor may be unstaged---

but his dog is in need of water.

=Learn to Run
Awake, I am crawling toward another day,
another crazy day to rearrange.
Just one day to be the fly on the wall,
tell me now, what would you change?

All aware to hide and seek,
there's an ironic world to be wrought.
Sing a song for all the peace,
and for every cold war you've fought.

I could rechart my course for the beaten path,
I could turn and walk away.
I could muster up the strength to fake another smile,
I can still hear my mother say...

"You better learn how to run
when you're under the gun,
before you are circled in chalk.

Listen to me
while the advise is still free,
you better learn to run 'fore you walk."

.
"How long will it be until
the whole world is chokin'?
How long will it take
for us all to fall down?
How long will it take 'til
every heart gets broken.
When the oceans rise,
will everybody drown?"
How many hours
until the final countdown?
How many days
until we're all washed away?
How long has it been
since you walked beside reason?
What would you think
if it started today?
Where are you going to go
to get a blood transfusion?
Where can you go
to replace an eye?
Will your resting place
be water or stone?
Why did you trade
the truth for a lie?

~Wild City Rain
.
Your eye's light shines like our moon, her moon...
skipping stones upon the sea--

although we're just dancing between notions in this wild city rain.

How can I hold the soul of a girl while
she's walking little stars on a string?
The night sea crashes as the moon,
at lightspeed; is painting every wave.

Open your celestial door and let me touch you.

Sweeter words have flown,
but these are the only words I've ever known.
I'm so tired of chasing deep shadows
that disappear in the warm morning sun.

Some just wake up and walk out my door,--

It makes my face grow longer as
the world turns me to face my
forty seventh winter wind.

~The Y's Have it!
.
I'm one tissue shy of calamity,
next to the last soul in humanity.
I am one ounce of pride short of dignity,
and one mph away from velocity.

I'm in one town, you're intensity,
a Master Charge away from identity.
One aching tendon from flexibility,
and one arc'd degree from the university.

Happiness has lost it's frivolity,
I have narrowed down my availability.
Gumby has lost all elasticity.
Will we live beyond infinity?

I've never crossed the lines between serenity and insanity,
has a poet's moon lost it's sensuality?
I am one drink ahead of sobriety.
The second to last to stand in society.

The unforgivable sin elbows my morality,
your pen sells your individuality.
One jail bar between your vulnerability.
Your down to earth qualities mock your vanity.

My daddy never claimed me through paternity,
I was the last kid standing in the maternity.
And just when I thought this poem was through,
you asked me to spend eternity with you.
Just a  Y's exercise !

If I had three wishes,
work days would be cut into thirds.
The words to songs remembered
by one billion humming birds.

If I had my way in a true blue world
I would never have to do the dishes.
The whole world would be fed and full,
and I could still wish for three more wishes.

Until the whole world can see
their own Gods' face.
Until then, let's make this world
a better place.

Let us love and fly
our own kites with smiles.
Let us stack all
our problems into piles.

If I were granted three wishes,
if I had my own way.
Both of you'd be alive
sitting with me here today.
.
Quiet feet walk slow on the lamp-lit streets--

Oblivious faces passing help
to light the night.
A darkened sea calls
to me, please
drop me at the door to her heart or
please, please set me free!

Secrets hide so well, even in the shining city.

Can you tell me Ms. Love how to
ease me of your ache?

I curled up and shivered
beneath the old cherry tree
with the lofty arms,
with the haunted silhouette
straining to paint the moon.

Last night I left my finest ode to rhyme
with my blue eyes falling--
upon her mouth.

Her cold hands clutched my heart
cruelly like a dying bouquet of serendipity
as the morning sun engulfed the
lamp-lit streets.

I peek through the keyhole
and try to smell
freedom drifting on a steel breeze--

My window vibrates with distant echos of laughter
and the lone moan of a rusted lawn mower.

The cool, trickling creek is once again hidden

Silver quivering shards of light
come shooting faster than bullets and
raucously ricochet around my room.

Gravity works on the melting snow on the distant mountains,
little rivulets race to satiate the wild flowers in the valley.

Eternity still holds a firm grip on my gaze--
my wonder.

It lead me down meandering streams,
Beneath the lofty willows,
Washing me upon mysterious shores where
Time is just an ancient notion.
Where day and night melted into one--

Running like a liquid wax beneath the castles' foundations.
Seems the sun and moon were all the poets ever dreamed of,
Or they would flood their dreams with only their light.
I remember walking by the old cemetery, counting each picket
Of the mile long whitewashed fence.
It was at that time in my life that I began to ponder eternity.
It had such a cold, icy feel to it then.

I remember.

My teeth would chatter
As I'd analyze the stars light
Stretching and criss-crossing into
The far unlit blackness of forever.

My favorite colors were always the blues and the grays--

Eternity still holds a firm grip on my gaze--
My wonder.

Miranda has the right to write in silence.
Anything you say, she will use against you
because you're moving your jaw.
Come knock on the door of my friend
Tom Sawyer. Especially if you cannot
afford a real lawyer.
I was trapped inside a rusty clock,
now I'm running out of time.
I'm gonna buy a tall, tall drink
and rub the rim with lime.
A pinch of salt, a pinch of skin,
just one more step and you'll be in.
These bottomless disturbances
quell my quivering quill,
I'm running out of time,
I've no time to ****.
Where voracious flowers whirl
with the movement of the moon,
and the lyrics won't be written
if I cannot find the tune.
In a dreamer's deeper darkness
remembering the womb's trembling throng,
keeps me merely existing just
to write your favorite song.
A piano intoxication is like
being chased by bees.
The more you drink, you'll drink more.
Let's go swimming in the keys.
Illumination's clear,
music is distressed.
It's time for me to go,
so, please don't be depressed.

We were so much more
than the sea and shore...
yes, yes:
we were so much more.

We dreamed every dream
together, unpinned--
I was sky,
and you were wind.

We were so much more
than sun and moon,
you were every grain
of sand in my dune.

We were so much more
than earth and sky.
I look up to heaven
and still ask why.

We were so much more
than beginning and end.
Despite death...
I still have a friend.
.
Can you see the path
I've made to the stars?
Where moonlight defines
a very good night,
where the moon's fury spills
her soft silver light
over twenty million poets
all at once.
I walk barefoot upon
the stars.
I write of gentle revolutions,
Saturn turns out to be
my best friend.
My pathway leads back behind
the sparkling pools of Neptune,
the pools much more blue than
its' dense methane skies.
As I sit beneath this tree
of Paradise,
I
wish YOU were here.

If I could just blame it on the shadows,
maybe I could forget about the rain.
Am I all alone in this universe?
Is the sun ever going to rise again?

With just one thought I can think that it's so,
to create a valley flooded with light.
To chase ev'ry shadow down to the sea,
to watch them swim away into the night.

Half the world thrusts money into my hand,
while all I need is right behind my eyes.
Little pockets of Heaven lined with gold,
I'm giving away my excess supplies.

I'm trading shadows, replaced with new light.
There are better days, so bring on the night.

Starvation and sorrow follow winter,
annihilation of the summer wind.
Searching the barren ground like the fat crow--
there is nothing. Nothing! My cold foot is pinned.

I am tempted to follow the archers,
paint bulls-eyes on the dark side of the sun.
Then I can measure my dreams in light years!
Ah! Nevermore is a poet's work done.

In my pocket are pennies that mingle.
Yet, they won't buy the warmth which I require.
Won't you sing for me that sweet lullaby?
Sonnet for a sonnet. My world's on fire!

How long until the winter sheds her skin?
Will the fat crow ever come back again?

When I was Adam's apple--

tender pain shot to the core.
The burden of mass starvation
came knocking on my door.

Looming storms that sighs began,
through my veins the bad blood ran.

I was sanitized and hunted
since my feet hit the ground.
I remember hearing the woman and
that haunting hissing sound.

Why couldn't I be more thankful
and run from misery,
instead of always rearing it's
head and running after me?

We walked into the sunset's light,
scrawled calligraphy of a flood.
Even tried to warn 'ol Noah
about the rising tide of blood.

We shook the tree,
it's fruit's long forgotten.
Twins fight for space inside her womb,
one will turn out rotten.

Looming storms that sighs began,
through my veins the bad blood ran.

When I was Adam's fingers...

Thoughts fraught
with apology
get dragged down by the stone.

It feels like a double milk dawn
ever since
you've been gone.
Eternal friends,
your atomic God.
Your omnipresent
force
field.

~Dear Geezus...
.Dear Geezus,    I am six years old and I need some help.My momma used to tell me that if I ever got intoa pickle that I could call on you and you would help me.Well, I think I'm in a real pickle.    Every time I get off the school bus after school,I walk into the house and I can never wake momma up,and she's always sweating real bad. I called 9-1-1 likethey told me to in school a long time ago last month. It didn't help.I always find her plastic tubes with pins in them and big rubber strapslaying on the coffee table.Sometimes when she wakes up she gets really, really mad at mefor no reason. I didn't do nothing wrong though.I am very scared Geezus! Can you pleeze help momma?I sure do miss her smiling.P.S. Can you take from me my pickle?Love,Zachary
