Mask
The dawning of a new day.
A new mask is chosen,
selected for this day.
I place it upon my face.
This mask works a charm.

I mask myself from the world
that envelopes me,
surrounds me,
suffocates me.
I hide beneath this facade
of smiles and bright eyes.
Yet underneath the surface,
underneath this perfectly positioned mask,
I am dying inside.
His smile was crooked.
Shy, he was.
Shy, at first.
Our eyes would secretly meet.
Those silent conversations.
Shy, he was.
His smile was crooked.
It was sincere.
I've never seen such a smile.
A shy smile.
A genuine smile.
A scared smile.
A smile for me.
The boy with the crooked smile,
smiled for me.
my best friend, my boyfriend, my boy with the crooked smile.

First interactions.
Those wandering eyes,
never seemed as significant at the time.
How was I to know,
those eyes could see me,
see me the way no one else could.
The first interactions were the hardest.
You were shy.
As was I.
You would stand upon my feet,
as I stood on yours.
This became but a game.
How was I to know those first interactions
would change my life forever.

Tourniquet
Say goodnight,
as I lay awake taking my last breath.

Remove this noose from my neck
and replace it with a tourniquet,
for i do not wish to die,
but I do this to be numb.

Remove this noose from my neck
and replace it with a tourniquet.

Daydreams
Silent whispers.
Under covers,
legs intertwined.

Light kisses,
sun rays,
birds chirping.
    Day dreams.

Darkness
Darkness envelopes me.
I shut my eyes tight to stop the images from floating.
Darkness fills me.
Fills me with fear.
Fear of the banging.
The scratching.
The ripping.
The thumping.
I lay in the darkness.
As the voices encase the room.
Whispering to me.
Taunting me.
Laughing.
Screaming.
Darkness envelopes me.

Mirrors
Laughing mirror,
Taunting mirror.
Lies.
Tricks.
I see many eyes, many faces, many shapes.
She is fat
She is ugly
She is skinny
She is pretty
She is ugly
           fat
           ugly
           fat
Laughing mirror,
Taunting mirror.
Why do you laugh at me so?

Childhood Games
Take my hand,
Let us run.
Run.
Run away with me,
Where nobody knows our names.
We'll play our childhood games
of hide and seek and kiss chasey.
We can claim a tree as our own,
Cling to its limbs for dear life,
Cling to these moments of
innocence and true love.
Falling from grace.
Once pale white wings,
suddenly turned black.

I have sinned.
We have all sinned.
Sins.
Our sins have turned our souls black,
our wings.
Black.

Falling from grace,
into the city of the fallen angels.
Forced to roam the Earth alone,
in darkness *forever

Coffee House
Sitting in this coffee house,
the harsh smells of the course beans
burn my nostrils.
The busy people rush and blur around me.
Yet I remain calm.
These coffee house people
fade and intertwine.
These coffee house people
are a figment of my imagination.

Free
My memories of you,
tend to fade to grey.
Your face is just a mere smudge,
and I like it that way.
Your voice is a crackle
in my mind,
like a thin branch,
snapping,
snapping like the moment,
the moment I was finally free.
Free of the hate.
The anger.
The pain.
I've burnt the photographs
and now
I barely remember you name.

this was
the beginning
