Battle for the Final Exam
Raven Cloud Dec 2011
Knights clad in paper armor
Draw their pen-shaped swords
In preparation for battle
Against the dragon named Algebra

All year they've trained for this day
Poring over musty tomes
Filled with archaic battle plans
Entire armies have been lost
In the dangerous search
For the elusive variable called X

The informants A and B
Have consistently given
Inconsistent information
And the number line
Has completely deserted them

The numbers taunt the knights
Mocking their puny calculators
Confident in their unanswerable status

Yet one by one
The polynomials fall
The dragon bows it's head
The Knights have won the day.

Homophobia
Raven Cloud Dec 2011
You call me a *****, a ****
You hurl insults like stones
That beat my spirit ******
Black hatred pools at my feet
Thick, Choking, Threatening
To drag me down into itself

Your fear cuts into my soul
Leaving a thousand wounds
A thousand times a day
I taste the blood of an innocent
Who is not so innocent anymore

How many of us will you burn
On the altar of self-righteous loathing
Salem reborn, Even the closet
Is no longer safe

Song of the Housewife
Raven Cloud Dec 2011
I pour the water
I fill the basket
I push the button
On the coffee ***

Uniforms in the wash
Socks in the dryer
Dishes are washed
Floors are swept

The bed has been made
Dinner is cooking
Kids are outside
Homework is done

You come home
From a long day's toil
Hungry and tired, ***** and sore
You see the dinner, the coffee
The clean socks and floors
And your heart is at peace
Your mind can rest easy

For the love that I give
Through the work of my hands
Speaks louder than any words
Ever could

Burn the Witch
Raven Cloud Dec 2011
They come for me in the night
Torches burning, screaming their hate
Calling for the death of the witch.
Drug from my bed, I am flung to the earth,
Afraid of their anger, afraid to move
I do nothing to resist

For it is true what they say, I am a witch.
I worship my goddess the earth,
When the moon is high in the night.
Now the mob compels me to move;
Against strong hands and blind hate
I am helpless to resist

The judge, his eyes dark as night
And blazing with furious hate,
Gives the decree "Burn the witch!"
My body is frozen, I cannot move
I want to scream, but I resist
Unable to stand, I fall to the earth.

The pyre is built on hard-packed earth.
A malevolent presence on this unholy night,
The chosen tool to carry out their hate.
Towards this sinister form they force me to move
Kicking and taunting, for they cannot resist
Reveling in the victory of catching a witch.

My world narrows down to this darkest of nights.
Through a haze of pain and fear I move,
Wishing myself anywhere else on this earth.
Wishing that what they believe of a witch
were true. I would fly away far from their hate,
Calling my magic, I would use it to resist.

But spells cannot save me from their hate,
And herbs would be useless should I resist.
As I am tied to the stake driven into the earth
The flame casts shadows that move
and dance against the backdrop of night
And fan the eerie chorus of "Burn the Witch!"

Silent as night, the spirit of the witch
Rises above the hate, and does not resist
As it quietly moves from the plane of the earth.

Dark Dreams
Raven Cloud Dec 2011
Shadows follow me into my dreaming
mind. My love, with his face ever beaming
is turned in my dreams to a skeletal
curse, His spirit slagged as hot metal
looks. The sunlight glows black streaked with red
And falls like cold ash, covering my bed.
Chasing me, haunting me the shadows prey
on my subconscious, driving me away
From the comfort of day, the world of light.
Deep into darkness, their world is the night.
Struggling, racing, like swimming through tar
I pull myself up and see from afar
Light in the tunnel, but in fear I quake,
For I realize, I'll never fully wake

Coffee is the Black Blood of the Universe
It Flows down through Time and Cultures

I am Woman
Raven Cloud Dec 2011
I am the goddess in the temple
I am the mother holding her son
I am the crone in the corner
I am the girl embracing her lover
I am all of these and none of these
I am Woman, I am strong

I have watched the ages flow by
Like water spilled from a mountain
I have wept for my sons
And ached for my daughters
My sexuality has been stolen
My voice is silenced
I have born the brunt of societal shame
****** upon me by men who fear my power
I am Woman, I am strong

But I refuse to bear the shame
I take back my rights
My voice is no longer silent
For I am Woman
And I am Strong

What Happens?
Raven Cloud Dec 2011
What happens when you realize,
That this is the wrong lifetime?
That you missed yours somehow.
That this life is essentially the waiting room for the next.

When you lose a dream.
When you realize that no matter how hard you try,
Life will continue to fall down around you.

Do you just get up and keep going?
Maintain the staus quo?
Try harder?

What if you miss the next life too?
What then?

How many lifetimes does one soul get?
How many to get it right?
To reach the goal, the finish line?

Is it fate, destiny that decides,
Or is it we that make the decision?
In that shadowy world between death and rebirth,
Is it we who choose when to re-enter this realm?

And if so, what happens when you realize.....

That this is the wrong lifetime....

That you missed yours somehow....

What happens?

You
Raven Cloud Dec 2011
You
Someone strokes my hair
And I want it to be You
Someone holds me when I'm crying
And I want it to be You
Someone tickles me, making me laugh
And I want it to be You
I go somewhere
And I want to go with You

My mind is one big empty space
In which I can almost
Hear You speaking
But when I turn up the volume
All I hear is static
