Fled the past And the beautiful dreams For pain accrues And sweeps away All the scents off the streets For this I have wept In a vacant old basketball court And kept it, so no one sees Gone are the laughs And life’s fleeting ornaments Burdens broaden and last With sweetening torments Vastness softly left Itself to a dead end So slowly in my head Days shortened and passed And years suddenly leapt! In the gloom In the shady living room Still warm the bloodshed Flashbacks are killing me good Though I prayed and fasted Knelt and dipped my face In words that are never said And promises that weren’t made Stay! I have seen my grace flicker And my face begin to wrinkle I have seen my own decease And ashes of me scattered Don’t ask, when will this cease What are nights, if you’re at ease? Look at the sky The placentas of shooting stars Tell you this is not the last To these nice white lights But as of now Fled, the past And the beautiful times
