They call it a name I didn’t know, A sudden tide, a heavy blow. When the blood turned tired and the pressure rose, I faced the fear that a mother knows. The world went fast while I stood still, Surrendering to a different will. Between the labs and the IV lines, I looked for hope in the smallest signs. It stole the peace I thought I’d find, And left a different strength behind. A body scarred, a spirit mended, A journey I never apprehended. But I am here, and I am whole, With a warrior’s heart and a survivor’s soul. The storm has passed, the air is clear, I’m breathing out the ghost of fear.

Broken Silence
