Why do we write? To cope, to escape, to embrace, to connect, to reflect. This poem was written for a special person I had just met, someone I would have never known if my friends had not pushed me to take that next step. This one is for you, Sakna — a journey I did not expect.
Imagine there is a place
With a smile on your face
When you open the door
Two worlds to explore
One outside your front door
One you’ve never seen before
Come take a walk with me
We’ll share harmony
Imagine there is a place
Somewhere in outer space
Where all of the stars glow
Bright as the moon we know
Where we’ll never forget
But we’ll always reflect
About what we’ve become
Due to things we overcome
Imagine there is a place
When we meet face to face
An emotional embrace
Can our hearts keep this pace
