You are no longer
the rose I once knew;
your petals have fallen,
your eyes without hue,
and gone is the songbird
who once flew to you,
who made your heart dance
and flutter and swoon
It killed him to see you
(so painful inside)
and each each time you withered
a part of him died.
He often returns
to the field where you played
but no more will he
return to love's grave.
