You were standing,
Hands outstretched
I was afraid.
Afraid you'd catch my brain
if I stepped closer,
Or if you did.
But then
You touched my face,
So gently,
Just as you own my heart.
I was waiting for the blow,
Wondering if this too
Was just a trick
Another way to catch me off guard.
But instead,
You drew me in,
Placed my stiff face
In the crook of your neck,
Held me close,
And whispered,
“It’s alright.”
