Thomas Metzinger argues that the self is an illusion, merely a dynamic model created by the brain and that we can perceive  something as real even when it no longer exists. I would personally be cautious with this. I see that people around the world are being convinced that reality is an illusion, but that's not the point. Soon, we may all start doubting our own experiences. I have been interested in this topic for years, and I also write about it, expressing it through metaphors. Good write, Carlo!
