Black woman Why do you cry Don’t you see the envy in all their eyes Yes but I also see the hatred in their hearts As they add my features to their shopping carts They pick and choose With nothing to lose They could never survive a day in my shoes See they could never carry the weight on my shoulders They would shatter like glass under a boulder Yet my strength goes unrecognized And all my actions are criticized Ostracized by society Put in one category As if black women don’t come in variety You’re on the outside looking in like an observatory You don’t know my true story You asked why I cry Well Now you know why
