That middle line says it. We are all innocent angelic children AT SOME POINT.
But we grow up and the world turns us into less angelic people. Its such a shame this 'angelic' image of the world is given to children, and then pulled away as a fiction later. Like santa claus, god and the tooth fairy. Its somewhat cruel.
