what do you see when you look in the glass, an aging man with hair of grey merely accepting another day, reflected there with tired eyes and wistful sighs. do you stand and gaze and dreamily slip to summer days long ago lost in pensive haze, quietly recalling the plans you made, the fun and laughter and strength of youth. then do you see the picture fade, the days so quickly turned to years and now you sadly see the truth as mirrored eyes reflect your fears and are your cheeks now wet with tears. look through the image and beyond and you will see the man I see, the dark haired boy so quick to smile and full of fun, with gentle hands and caring heart, my friend, my love, my only one. that’s how you stay in my minds eye and though years pass and mirrors tell another tale, the truth within is all I see and memories in a lovers eyes will never fail. **by EJ. repost *************************************************************** a reply from a man in the mirror *************************************************************** My dear love, When I gaze at this mirror I am filled with laughter and tearful eyes Of happiness For I am not looking at my lost self Nor the days that slipped me by But only find all the blessings Which I have cherished with you, in this life the amazing moments you have brought out of me Planting me next to you on this place Unity I shall die. Throughout the years You saw me fall and rise Without even once leaving my side When I stand here and gaze, feeling a bit lost That's because I'm lost in your beauty For I only see you love, still as gorgeous as the day we met And see you're smiling back at me through the glass Making me giggle like a child as if you're tickling me My love, we know the years are gone by Age and body are on the edges of tipping fall Yet, because of you, I'm still standing tall My wandering mind might drift away But as I stood and gazed For in your love, I am still amazed With this reflection in the mirror I am dancing to our youthful wander Then I looked and smiled Once again With everlasting joy, not to a single regret filed Nor to a single failed plan. My post is more like a reply to Elizabeth J's "for my man in the mirror." I couldn't refuse to ask her to reply to her poem, which I really loved to read and thought of a response from a man's perspective that's standing by the mirror, which she vividly captured. Amazingly, she loved the idea of "a replay from a man in the mirror," which is my version of the conversation. hope you like it
