As I approached her standing in the rain that
     night;
     that lonely, sad little girl,
     she appeared like a deer in the lights.
I couldn't have guessed then that one day
     she would become my entire world.

One can never know what Fate has in store.
You just roll the dice and go.
She had done that this night and walked out that door
     with more courage than even the bravest
     men know.

In her life no example of love had been set.
She knew little of life at all.
With good or bad luck I was the first guy she
     met;
     perhaps it was Gods will that we met at
     all.

At first the going got kind of rough;
     she so innocent, and I surely not.
She was so gentle and I was so tough.
I was the predator by which she was caught.

It took a couple of years for me to know
     she was the reason this widower needed to live.

She patiently waited for my love to grow
     so I could accept the love she had to give.
