She sits by the fire 'til the flames go out All alone in her rocking chair Another Christmas Eve has come and gone But no one seems to care
Her children, now grown with kids of their own But they just don't visit anymore Her husband passed away ten years ago She couldn't know what life had in store
She tucks the blanket underneath her chin As she rocks the night away She closes her eyes and begins to dream As the night turns into day
Awakened by a knock on her window pane A little boy stands in the snow She opens the door and invites him in For he had no place to go
She sits him in her chair by the fireplace To warm his frost-bitten feet She goes to the kitchen to get some food To offer him something to eat
The little boy smiles and says, "Thank you, Mam" As he hands her an empty bowl It warmed her heart to see him smile And touched her very soul
They talked for what seemed like hours 'Til the little boy fell asleep He stayed all night 'til the morning came For the snow was just too deep
When the woman awoke the very next day Where he went, she just didn't know For he was gone before the sun came up But there were'nt any tracks in the snow
The very next night she closed her eyes And left this world behind That's when Jesus took her by the hand And said, "Thank You for being so kind"
"For I was the boy who had no shoes, And you sit Me down by the fire, You fed Me when I hungered so, A gift I truly admire"
"I was a stranger on Christmas morning With no place to lay my head, You opened up your heart to Me, And offered Me your bed"
"So Thank You for this Christmas present, And Merry Christmas too, Enter in My child well done, For here's My gift to you"
