He spoke of buying
sports cars in Prague
of cancelled flights to Tuscany
This man/boy
peach fuzz mustache
clumsy conversation
childish arrogance
entitled
He spoke as if I knew this world
or that I cared
He seemed a great tragedy
of expectations unfulfilled
of unrealized adventures
He didn’t know whether
he came from old money or new
nor what either meant
He wore the outfit of a schoolboy
Khaki pants
blue blazer
loafers
I imagine him at sixty
in the same clothes
never understanding what happened
to his goals
his unyielding goals
still telling the story
of his misfortune in that East-block country.
