If you ask about my roots
I swear my speech will seem endless
but you don't have to..
because my accent will start to bleed through
and the names of my ancestors will appear in my eyes
You'll meet Amparo, Severo and Maria
Out of my mouth their stories will pour
and you'd be forced to swallow them whole
and you will like it
and if I allow you to touch me,
you'll feel the warm waters of my island flowing in
giving you a sweet glimpse of what serenity feels like
you'll hear tamboras, and Anthony Santos
Mami's melanin, curves and curly black hair
is what allowed me to become just as beautiful as the place we come from
