May 2014
once you wrote a poem
about my sun-golden
green leaves
green and gold
trees bursting from the ground
i don’t remember the words
but i remember the feeling
of being twelve, thirteen,
a woman-child
uncertain and unhappy
feeling the brief beauty
of pencil to paper
my birthday present.
