Communion
As
I dip a piece of broken bread
into grape juice
in a cheap styrofoam cup
My mind races
to
clips from movies,
scripture read so many times
Your body
hanging from
a bloodied cross
The King of Kings,
Pierced
by nail, thorn and spear
A phrase whispers through
my mind,
"This
changes everything"
Pierced
for our sins
Crushed
for our iniquities
The Lord of Lords,
Son of God,
battered, bruised and hanging
from a bloodied tree
Beaten and torn,
"This is My body"
Poured out,
"This is my blood"
Broken for me broken
for you
This,
this changes everything
And I dip a piece of broken bread
into grape juice
in a cheap styrofoam cup
