It's the poet's greatest enemy
Before the words are found
For every poet hears it
And deafening, is its sound

Its voice is heard by one and all
Before the paper meets pen
An obstacle that we all must face
Before the words begin

It's the curse for every writer
No matter if you're good or bad
It can cause your words to fade away
With every thought you ever had

It's presence is always with us
No matter what we do
It can last for just a little while
Or even a month or two

It can seem like it lasts forever
As we labor throughout the night
And sometimes we can't escape
The silence before the write
