The One Way Facade

He had patiently waited to correctly piece the words together – He had endured the fights, the lonely nights - all the bad weather. “Tonight will be different,” he said to himself in his worried head, “Tonight, no fights, no distractions – just my love for her, instead.” As he stared, unaware of the future, at her perfect physique, He grabbed her hand, caressed it, and he began, with difficulty, to speak. “I never wanted to acknowledge these feelings for another being, But after you walked into my life, baby I started believing… Believing in the feeling that somehow I could become more than me… You’ve given me a world, helped me dream…darling, you’ve helped me see That no matter what comes my way, with you, I can make it through. I guess what I want to say is – do you see the same things too?” But his world – a world painted brilliantly with pictures of her – Was quite different from hers, in which he was only the saboteur. How strange it is that two people can look together into the same reflection And see two pictures – for one, pain…for the other, perfection. “Tonight,” she thought, “no fights, no distractions – I’ll shred this one way veil… Tonight we’ll be different…I’ll show him what I see – a hell.” “Our love was nothing but a shooting star…first brilliant, but destined to die. Please don’t act surprised – look back at what we’ve lived…nothing but a lie! You wanted me for the picture you painted – the colors were brilliant and pretty. But for me, you’re nothing but dull…you’re dark…I wanted you because of pity. You were different from all the other guys; I thought you could be the best… But the more I lived our lie, the more I wanted to be just like the rest. You’re dull…you’re nice…you’re caring…no girl will ever be impressed.” Finally, his world – the colors, the pictures – all came burning down. Finally he – like she had been all along – began to slowly sink under and drown. The more he fought for the surface to be free of all she had caused, Suddenly, it all made sense…finally, he saw her world, and paused. The reflection was clear now, with all his refracting emotions now gone. Finally, he saw what she had seen the entire time – one person…alone.
