Nothing of what was now remains
Sweet have been the losses and the gains
Losing inhibitions that for years have been
A part of her, unknown and unseen

What was black is now grey
So much to tell but no words to say
Conforming to all that nasty and nice
Experience, most of all things, makes you wise

Soft wrinkles on the carefree brow
Love makes you stand low and bow
A sweet friendship to it converts
As it escalates the joy and heals what hurts

In the past times, those have been
Saw a girl growing out of her teen
As fate would have it, cupid did strike
This little damsel, a man she did like

The two, over time, grew into one another
Her lover seemed a father, son, friend and a brother
Gentle and fierce, their passions blew
And the bird to her cage, she flew

Sharing food, eating out of each other’s hand
Holding and caressing, as if in a no man’s land!
Squealing as she saw her lover’s visage
Another moment, tear stricken, affectations led by a mirage

He had promised her not
To either stay or even love her a lot
Yet his hand held with her unflinching faith
Poised she stood, with a woman’s grace

And at last came, the dreaded time to leave
He sat to smile, while she stood to grieve
He wandered away into his unknown land
Waiting, she spent her time counting sand

He hasn’t returned, she’s still in a wait
Hoping their roads cross, and merciful be fate
By his memories she continues to exist
That hand was his, the hand she had kissed

Faltering ever, as her burden of hope weighs her down
While those eyes in tears, continue to drown
Back to where she began, fearing and insecure
Will the wounds ever heal, she’s still not sure.
