In nights of rain and heavy sleep
She sneaks outside to take a peek
Behind the gutter away from sight
The beggars sing of holy night
As broken pride and stained ink
Had drained the glimpse of heaven's leak
A curse will spring and frightens he
Who once had loved and cared for thee
"Endure the bond with sorrow's grief and no more truth will be concealed"
A coward heard the devil's speech
And as a fool grew smaller and weak.
When steady feet and labor arms
Appeared one day to cause no harm
A craven soul fled away
To escape the beast's slay
Contempt and shame will lie upon
He who defies with weary arms
