The Real Me
Stares, whispers and pointing
Is that all you see?
Beneath this exterior a bleeding heart
That is me
Don’t judge a book by its cover
So they say
But for the human race and most mankind
There is no other way
The outer me that is unacceptable
To the norm
Covers the true, the real
My thinner form
Take the time and interest
To perhaps learn
There is more to me than
The body you spurn
I bleed and cry and feel
Just like you
I long for love and friendship
Deep meaningful and true
So take the time to get to know
The inner me
The one fighting so very hard
To soar and be free
So if perchance we should ever have
The pleasure to meet
Remember to look beyond and in
My true self to greet
