When I was growing up
My mother taught me
That America was a free country
And I could be as free as possible

Then you add in laws
And moralities
And eyes that stare you down
For expressing your opinion

This is not a free country
This is not a free world

If it was
Maybe I wouldn't feel so trapped
Inside my own skin
