Within the distant fray I sway
leaves from a deadened bough
release me
shriveled, brittle
to a hardened ground.
------------------
Once I thought I'd seen a butterfly
I watched its wings

touch and gape
touch and gape
touch and
fall

like a dying star
I witnessed its fall
swallowed by an ocean
coloured by the receding sun.
