Don't cry, shed no tears
over the death of mine;
I will have completed a task everyone fears
and I've feared it the very last time.

Don't grieve over forgotten, " I love yous "
if my life quickly ends,
for love is the strongest of virtues
that through time transcends.

And I'll always love you
but now it's in a different way
not in body as we used to
the way it was yesterday.

Feel my presence in a sudden breeze
my kiss in morning air,
touch a flower and think of me
and know I am there.

If you think "poor me"
I'm not and never was
if I had one thing that made me lucky
it was your love.

Hold on to today
with fond memories of me in your past,
don't let yesterday obsess you
and make every precious moment last.
This poem is dedicated to my mother, Johnnie Mae Deering, 1936-2006 I know you're still there.
