It’s late at night
And yet I cannot get myself to bed
Draw the curtains
Grab a wink.

I hear a murmur,
In the night,
Darkness encompassing
Chest pounding, heart throbbing.

A breeze blows,
The mist, it swells.
Memories facade,
The world, it seems a lonesome place.

And yet that murmur lingers,
I hear it grow louder,
Darker the night becomes.
I am scared.

I breathe in the air,
Heavy in the chest,
Weak in the heart,
Accepting my fate.
But I want to live.

I shut my eyes,
Shut out the light,
And embrace the darkness.
I read a prayer,
Peace in eternal silence.
