Morning Walk

Gulls cry above the water;

dolphins break the morning

and vanish in the blue.

Clouds move slowly

across the widening sky.

I stand where land

gives way to sea,

the shore remade

by each rising tide.

I step lightly,

leaving footprints

the waves will take.

And there,

in what would not remain,

I found thoughts

I had not known

were mine.
