i saw god in the back of a thrift store

do you care enough

to put my name in your prayers?

i ask god for health

not only for me

but you too

everything i ask for comes in pairs

yet some things don’t matter

a poor man asks me for spare change

i keep my eyes up

where was god for him?

if he’s so powerful why do so many die

not to be sacrificed

not to be taught a lesson

not because “god has a plan”

but only because they did not believe

or so they say

my mind cannot tell the difference between

god and my soul

and sometimes i think they don’t exist

neither of them

but that’s just part of my plan

i don’t banish the beliefs

but i do feel selfish to ask from him

as if it’s my fault if something bad happens

like i could’ve prevented it by believing him

but maybe he’s not some higher being

maybe he’s just like us

maybe his soul is part of everyone
