Sitting By The Phone

The room feels so quiet,

The phone number's dialing,

But there's nobody there.

So you try again,

This cannot be the end,

Yet, the proof is everywhere.

You pace along the floor,

Remain shut behind the door,

As the pain starts creeping in.

You start to question,

Their intentions,

And if you'll ever love again.

All those words you can't take back,

Every fight, every petty attack;

Patience is something you've always lacked,

And now you broke the camel's back.

You lie on your bed,

But the line remains dead,

And now you don't know where to go.

The things that you said,

Still echo in your head,

And now you're sitting by the phone,

Alone.

You can picture their eyes,

Following the fight,

Welling up with tears.

The rage that you felt,

The wounds that you dealt,

Confirmed your fears.

Two words never hurt so much,

And now it feels like hell's opened up,

Just for you.

This love you felt, so vividly,

You thrashed and beat, so viciously.

Was it even true?

When you realized what you did,

You picked up your phone, dialed their number real quick,

And you hope that they'll see it,

So you can try to fix this.

You lie on your bed,

But the line remains dead,

And now you don't know where to go.

The things that you said,

Still echo in your head,

And now you're sitting by the phone,

Alone.

You try again,

But the line remains dead,

And now your home doesn't feel like home.

Those things that you said,

Filled with pain and contempt,

All they did was leave you with a hole.

Now, with nowhere else to go,

You're sitting by the phone,

Alone.
