The Spiral

by Pyrrha

I've stopped looking for you in my empty spaces. Somehow, I always thought you'd be there— already waiting in the places I'd fall apart, a kind of rescue I never stopped expecting. It didn't matter how much time passed, I knew you'd always be the one there in my time of need. A white knight I trusted always there to rescue me. I always thought we’d find our way back someday, somewhere, somehow— but now I’m content to close our book. No more bookmarks, no chapters left half-read, no returning to the pages where you stayed just long enough to matter, only to leave the ending unfinished again. I understand it now, of course— it's a spiral, a labyrinth I cannot map. Every crossroad leads to you, it doesn't matter which road I choose. Its a spiral every time we speak. Endless circles, pulling us back in again into the whirlpool we've never been able to leave. I feel like a fly caught in your web. Tell me, Spider-Man, do you ever let go of what you’ve caught? I would've done anything just to be seen— not just seen, but felt, known. Just friends but I swear— we're lovers in my mind. Soulmates of a special kind just caught in a spiral, stuck in a web. Maybe I never want to unwind, I let it get me every time. I fly right into your web, dive into the whirlpool again, I spin right into the spiral. One way or another— it always leads to you, doesn't it?
