What the soil keeps

I buried my name in the dirt

Not to forget it,

Only to see

If something quieter might take root

Deadlines circled the days,

Without touching down, waiting

For something to give

You kept the windows open,

Even in winter,

Said the cold

Made things honest

We spoke in fragments-

Receipts, reminders,

Half slept apologies

Love reduced

To whatever made it through the day

The soil took everything

Without comment:

The plans, the harsh words,

The version of me

I always thought I could be

Something did grow,

Eventually,

Not hope,

Not relief,

But something steadier,

Something concrete

If you asked,

I'd still say I'm fine.

But my hands remember

The weight of the ground,

And your hands,

That never let go.

Never let go

I'm not sure what exactly I was thinking while writing it, I just got an idea for a line and just went with it. Hope you like it!
