I know you by the salt on your skin

I know you by the salt on your skin

by the sigh behind the ribs

by the cold that starts in your fingers

and moves slowly toward the neck

failure tastes of metal in your mouth

not knowing is unbearable for your teeth

your feet tremble and mine answer

a small earthquake we do not name

there can be no story

just the heat of your pulse against my palm

just the dark boom of blood under the skin
